About

Blast from the Past is a multiplayer first person shooter developed in collaboration as part of my Masters Studies, the download link can be found on the upper right. We used the Gamebryo Game Engine and Scaleform for the user interface. The game is set in a futuristic environment and features some new exciting game mechanics presented further down. To get a feeling for the game give the video below a shot.

MemCopies

The game features a revolutionary game component we named Memcopy (Memory Copy). Memcopies can be created easily by pressing the middle mouse button and while pressed moving the mouse to the upper left, upper right, lower left or lower right, allowing creating up to 4 Memcopies. A Memcopy creates a real time visualization in your HUD (screen) of the position and angle your character is. You can then continue moving seeing in the display what is happening at that position, such as players running by or special items spawning. At any moment you can teleport back to that position by pressing the middle mouse button and moving the mouse to one of the four corners, depending on which Memcopy you want to select. This game play feature allows you to escape from dangerous situations, ambush players or collect special items extending the first person shooter genre to new limits.
But Memcopies can also be hunted, walking near an opponents Memcopy will give visual and auditory feedback. There is also a special visor that allows spotting enemy Memcopies from afar. Once near an opponents Memcopy a shockwave can be released which will destroy it. The HUD of the player who destroyed the Memcopy will display an arrow pointing to the current position of the opponent of which the Memcopy was destroyed. The player of which the Memcopy is destroyed is handicapped by slower movement. This is why Memcopies have to be placed with care.
